The project aims to develop approaches for semantic support and visualisation of information in the context of source-critical work with different spatial dimensions of places. These approaches will help to minimise the ambiguities and uncertainties often associated with the use of modern geospatial data for historical place information. Embedding Semantic Web technologies into the historical interpretation process opens up opportunities for researchers to examine sources and historical material in terms of relationships identified by places. For example, more detailed and accessible information about the provenance of manuscripts and other artefacts can help uncover previously unknown economic and social connections. Following the successful establishment of a consortium, a joint application for European research funding will be developed on topics related to cultural heritage.
